Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificiate. A minimum of seven (7) years extensive experience with maintenance and troubleshooting elevator and escalator service, and repair. Possess Certified Elevator/Escalator Technician license.

Job Summary/Duties:

This is highly skilled certified Elevator/Escalator Technician position for service and maintenance repair work, to ensure the integrity and maintenance of elevator and escalator equipment and systems. Employee is responsible for performing complex troubleshooting of a mechanical and elecrtical nature, call backs and repair tasks.

Performs technical inspections and repairs of elevator and escalator equipment and systems to ensure conformity with the Authority's maintenance standards, recommending adjustments as necessary to preserve equipment integrity or react to changing operating conditions.

Conducts thorough hands-on investigations and inquiries into equipment or system failures, and problem installations. Analyzes the effectiveness of preventive maintenance practices and suggest improvements in those practices. Ensures technical requirements for redesigned equipment are properly documented. Coordinates with supervisors and provides field training for journeyman.

Works with ELES engineering staff analyzing mechanical systems, electronic circuits, and peripherals used by Authority in Elevator and Escalator Systems. Determines compatibility of parts' procurement

Evaluates circuit adaptability to various operating conditions. Evaluates electronic circuity and coordinates any required modifications with contractors, consultants, manufacturers and affected Authority staff.

Assists certified inspectors in periodic field inspections on installed equipment to assure equipment is performing efficiently and to predetermined specifications.

Assists ELES engineering staff by field testing proposed procedures, maintenance troubleshooting manuals, and inspection schedules for all equipment; and suggesting maintenance improvements in their technical definition to further reliability objectives.

Assists in providing effective technical assistance to an coordinating with training personnel on the development of instructional programs to assure that required skill levels are available to maintain elevator and escalator systems. 

Prepares timely reports, as may be required, on general system or equipment problems, replacement parts and equipment performance standards.

Complies with established WMATA rules/regulations and Metrorail Safety Rules and Procedures Handbook.

Maintains a clean work area.

May serve as lead Elevator/Escalator Technician.

Required to act as a Mentor.
