The RDM’s objective is to win the hearts and minds of the sellers within carrier retail sales channels and improve Samsung’s opportunity for success at the point of sale. The Retail Development Manager will partner with the Channel Sales leadership as the Account Team representative to plan product launches, develop sell-thru strategies and product life cycle management, transfer knowledge of key messages, and share market intelligence. # Necessary Skills / Attributes
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Channel Sales Alignment
Attend weekly account staff meetings to help drive monthly priorities and actions that are needed from the field sales organization. Participate in weekly RM day process to provide and communicate all account activities including product launch dates, promotional activities, and competitive insights needed. Serve as resource for specific account information, such as product roadmap, launch dates, promotion dates, competitive data, etc. Serve as carrier expert for input on planning, volume and activities. To work in a collaborative manner with various STA functional areas to set strategic “Go to Market” direction. Responsible for distribution of product literature, sales tools and other resources to STA sales and marketing. Actively work with field sales team on account planning process including account segmentation analysis, establishment of specific account objectives and appropriate routing/coverage to ensure the needs of key targeted accounts are met. Identifies and tracks retail knowledge and effectiveness at retail and develops action plans to address Serves as the voice of the customer and the field reps calling out the needs of the business and takes action Maintains a pulse on competitors and leads aggregation and distillation of insights at all teams especially during seasonal peaks and launches Visits, trains, and coaches sales personnel nationwide. Conducts collaborative business planning sessions with Channel Sales leadership. Primary POC for resource allocation between Channel Sales and Account team, including devices, personnel, POS materials and event support. Partners with RSM on local opportunities and issues. Establishes visit expectations of the FSM based on key account initiatives.
Sales and Strategy
Provides account specific insights back to the carrier teams that are outputs from the weekly RM day process that will include regional business trends, competitive activity that may be impacting sales, and merchandising opportunities that are shared during the RM day process. Proactively participates/facilitates in the quarterly development of business objectives, strategies, tactics and measurement tools. Actively participates in Carrier Team decisions as they affect retail execution plans. Determines specific Account Training strategies including elements such as: sell in, sell thru, consumer profiling, closing, merchandising, channels management, classifications. Develops and manages local marketing strategies and plans with regional sales managers to improve competitive advantage within the assigned division. Ensures profitability of local sales and marketing activities within assigned division. Makes customer sales calls to identify inventory/product requirements, make sales, marketing and operational recommendations, and roll-out new products. Makes regular sales calls to Regional VPs of assigned division. Identifies and draws attention to critical Samsung market issues and business development opportunities. Identifies new sales opportunities/channels and openly shares business development information and opportunities with other team members. Identifies regional sales goals and priorities based on product inventory, sell thru targets and gap analysis. Maintains understanding of regional sales trends, shifts in market conditions and competitive positioning.
Product Launch and Life Cycle Management
Participates as a member of the key product launch committees that affect assigned major account(s) to ensure effective launch of new products nationally. Meets with carrier partner leadership to design and implement go to market strategies for new product launches. Coordinates with account on strategies and final sell out/thru of EOL product cycle. Secures field units for FSM use in training carrier stores, agents and national retail for non-global devices. Provides launch reports for Samsung, and occasionally competitive, launches utilizing market sensing from FSM team and FSM
Help secure permissions for activities that are requested from the field such as trainings, store access, and document approvals. Provide relevant input into design and execution of account specific training. Works with Carrier customers to fulfill manufacturer requirements for device training. With support from Training Content Development Manager, establishes product launch presentations that provide continuity for all Sales & Marketing training deliverables. Will act (with appropriate sales & marketing personnel) as the primary contact and trainer for critical training programs with Carrier partners. Ensures adequate training for customers in product features, functionality, and user applications to promote Samsung over competitor products. Facilitates retail execution planning within Account team as it pertains to in store activities, education and field sales support. A Bachelor's Degree with 6-10 years’ experience preferably in sales, business, or retail development management; MBA preferred. Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions: The position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment. Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal between 50% - 95% of work time, including prolonged periods of time. Requires considerable (90%
•) work utilizing high visual acuity/detail, numeric/character distinction, and moderate hand/finger dexterity. The movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time is under 25 pounds. Performs work under time schedules and stress which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive deadlines, intellectual challenge, some language barriers, and project management deadlines. Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids include PCs, printers, copiers, faxes, and other equipment commonly associated with an office work area. May require working additional hours beyond normal schedule.
