SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Sr Production Manager, supervises personnel and manage activities of the assigned department in the manufacturing of meat products. Coordinate and control work activities of employees in accordance withestablished policies and practices, following master production schedule. To control costs such as labor and supplies. To assure quality and effective utilization of assigned equipment and facilities, including the repair and maintenance ofphysical assets. To administer company polices, union contract and management practices to the employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Sr Production Manager, supervises personnel and manages activitiesof the assigned department in the manufacturing of meat products. Coordinate and control work activities of employees in accordance with established policies and practices, following master production schedule. Control costs such as labor and supplies. Assures quality and effective utilization of assigned equipment and facilities, including the repair and maintenance of physical assets. Administer company polices, union contract and management practices to the employees. Applies production schedule in assigning work to employees to meet established schedules and quality of all manufactured meat products. Checks operations regularly to insure that processes, schedules, quality and safety standards are maintained. Audits schedule changes and recommends to Value Stream Manager the addition of personnel. Recommends and carries out the transfer of employees from job to job to achieve optimum balance in terms of changing production requirements. Executes the scheduling of employees' vacation, holidays and starting times. Approves department employees' timecards weekly. Works with formulations to establish correct mixture of ingredients or processing of products. Recommends and makes changes as necessary. Coordinates activities of department with other production departments to maintain proper product flow. Directs the flow of materials to assigned areas to maintain a smooth flow of work. Oversees the unloading and/or movement of raw and/or finished product for processing daily. Suggests new methods to improve production efficiency through cooperation with Quality Assurance personnel and individuals from governmental agencies. Maintains assigned areas in clean, orderly condition. Assures that areas are safe and safe working practices are followed. Exercises proper care and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment and facilities. Conducts weekly huddle/safety meetings for department employees. Trains new employees in the safe, efficient operation of equipment. Handles employee grievances in accordance with the established policy. Makes recommendations relative to hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, training, discipline andother appropriate changes of status in accordance with established company policy. Prepares all required production activities and quality records and reports. Required to make/recommend action on materials. Frequent and critical contactsinclude production, maintenance, materials management, quality assurance, engineering, USDA, and research and development. A trained designee will be appointed by plant management to cover for absences or vacancies. REQUIREMENTS: Education:High school diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
