Advisor, Category Planning & Analysis


Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Build/refine a financial category plan based on guidance and collaboration from the Planning Manager/Category Manager
  • Partner with Category Manager to create and maintain a productive and profitable portfolio of products
  • Understand the customer needs across multiple classes of trade
  • Incorporate impact of non-recurring events within the industry, i.e. changes in government reimbursement rates, Prescription to OTC launches, Changes in Supplier base
  • Partner with Inventory Management and Category Managers to ensure inventory flow supports key product launches and plan-o-gram resets
  • Ability to analyze and integrate external market data from vendors such as Nielsen
  • Works with marketing manager to ensure marketing/promotional vehicles support the category sales & margin targets
  • Identifies calendar shifts due to holidays, promotional shifts that impact the category sales profiles
  • Analyze and reflect current trends in performance based on actual sales performance; revise in-season plans to maximize sales and profitability
  • Present business results in key financial meetings that include action plans to minimize risk and maximize opportunities
  • Partner with Category Managers to develop and devise tactics in response to current business trends using both internal and external data
  • Monitor service levels & work cross functionally with Inventory Management to ensure targets are being achieved
  • Monitor non-productive/slow move inventory; collaborate with Inventory Management and Category Manager to devise and execute action plans that reduces unproductive inventory
  • Working with Category Manager to identify product assortment opportunities through analytical support
  • Analyze performance for area of responsibility relative to performance of financial plan and trend for sales and margin
  • Prepares and analyzes data. This can include locating, sourcing, cleansing, profiling, extracting, mapping, importing, transforming, validating, and modeling
  • Collaborate with Marketing on ROI analytics
  • Ad hoc reporting as needed, interprets results, identifies trends and issues, and develops recommendations

Qualifications / Capabilities:

  • 1-3 years of retail planning or retail analytics experience with previous roles in inventory management, merchandise planning, store planning, assortment planning, replenishment, or allocation preferred
  • Financial planning or financial analysis experience may be considered in place of merchandise planning experience
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; strong aptitude with numbers and financial metrics such as GMROI, Inventory turnover, etc.
  • Ability to advance to high levels of computer literacy; exposure to relevant planning, finance, analytical, data management
  • Identifies/influences critical stakeholders - proactively problem solves and recommends solutions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, concisely presents complex information/recommendations to various audiences
  • Works to develop collaborative partnerships cross-functionally; identifies/influences critical stakeholders
  • Ability to articulate detailed action plans, and ability to influence others in accomplishing the business goal
  • Understands and executes against business strategies and goals
  • Ability to make decisions with limited information but also able to synthesize large quantities of data to drive business decisions
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferably in finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics
  • Experience with technology such as: Tableau, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, Alteryx, SQL, R, SAS
