Job Summary:Responsible for performing laboratory tests to determine chemical characteristics of feed, crop, food, solid, and water samples. This is a full time position located in the Brookings, SD laboratory.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform lab analysis on a variety of food products and agricultural products/commodities, utilizing prescribed SOPs and official analysis methods.
  • Perform routine quality control to ensure quality of work of required ISO 17025 or other certification level.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas
  • Set up, adjust, maintain and operate laboratory equipment, GC-MS and LC-MS/MS
  • Record test results utilizing prescribed data reporting methodology
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments to specified technical requirements
  • Perform extractions using standard industry methods along with methods developed in house
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas
  • Troubleshoot in analysis and equipment when quality does not meet specifications
  • Ensure quality and confidentiality of client and company information and take an active role in updating Quality System
Job requirements

Education and Required Skills:
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline required, with a minimum of 3 years of chromatography and analytical analysis experience
  • Experienced with chromatography software and can evaluate the quality of chromatographic integration, calibration, and results for complex, multi-analytic methods.
  • Knowledgeable in data reporting, technical requirements and general market drivers, LIMS and other applications
  • Ability to gather and review resources and select and synthesize data for reports and other written materials
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make sound suggestions or recommendations
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills needed to balance multiple projects and changing priorities
