Job Description

The Data Engineer will support EZCORP's Data Science team on data initiatives ensuring optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. This role will be responsible for the maintenance, improvement, cleaning and manipulation of data in the business' operational and analytic databases. The engineer will also work closely with the software and data teams to understand and aid in the implementation of database requirements, analyze performance and troubleshoot any existing issues.



Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Responsible for expanding and optimizing EZCORP's data and data pipeline architecture and data flow

2. Transforms and extracts data into a format that can be easily analyzed

3. Develops, maintains and tests infrastructures for data generation

4. Deploy Machine Learning models in an operational environment



Critical and Essential Tasks

1. Builds systems and infrastructures that collect and process data according to company needs and goals

2. Builds, evolves and scales out infrastructure to ingest, process and extract meaning out of data

3. Implements statistical models to carry out various novel aspects of classification and information extraction from data

4. Leverages existing data infrastructure to fulfill all data-related requests, perform necessary data housekeeping, data cleansing, normalization, hashing, and implementation of required data model changes

5. Analyzes data to spot anomalies, trends and correlate similar data sets

6. Troubleshoots problems, identifies possible solutions, and resolves accordingly

7. Builds analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operation efficiency and other key business performance metrics

8. Identifies, designs and implements internal process improvements - automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability



Experience
5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role

Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT or applied math; Master's degree preferred; data engineering certifications a plus

• Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) and working familiarity with a variety of databases


• Experience and proficiency with Python applications and development


• Experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures and data sets


• Experience performing root causes analysis on internal and external data and processes


• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing and highly scalable 'big data' data stores


• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and accuracy in work, time management and organizational skills
