We are seeking a dedicated Desktop Support Technician for our Information Systems Technology department.

LEVELS I & II position assists the enterprise user base with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. Support includes installation and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Work is performed with moderate independence under the direction of the senior staff or management.

LEVEL III position provides technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. This position supports the enterprise user base. Support includes specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Work is performed with considerate independence under the direction of the senior staff or management. The Desktop Support Technician III will assist the Desktop Support Technician IV in establishing processes, controls, and strategy. The Desktop Support Technician III will provide mentoring and assistance to the junior technical support staff.

LEVEL IV position provides a senior level of technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. This position supports the entire Enterprise’s user community. Support includes specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of Management. The Desktop Support Technician IV will have mentoring responsibility for more junior technical support staff. The Desktop Support Technician IV will work with Management in establishing processes, controls, and strategy around desktop support initiatives.

JOB INFORMATION

Levels I - IV

  • Assists in maintaining technical asset tracking
  • Assists staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
  • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers, and administrative systems
  • Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment
  • Performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity
  • Repairs, reimages, maintains, and keeps inventory of IT equipment
  • Works with Help Desk, Network Operations and System Administration staff as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from clients
  • Works with procurement staff to purchase hardware and software
  • Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment
  • Performs other duties as necessary

Levels II - IV

  • Performs installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
  • Works with procurement staff to purchase hardware and software

Levels III - IV

  • Assesses functional needs to determine specifications for purchases
  • Collaborates with Help Desk, Network Operations and Systems Administration staff as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from clients
  • Develops standards for desktop operating systems environment
  • Maintains technical asset tracking
  • Provides mentorship to junior technical support staff
  • Recommends and/or performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity

Level IV

  • Assists with deployment of wiring closet switches and WAN routers
  • Coordinates vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer of desktop system support procedures and nuances
  • Leads the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
  • Mentoring of Desktop Support Technician II and Desktop Support Technician III
  • Participates in vendor product evaluation and selection
  • Provides leadership to Desktop Support Technician II and Desktop Support Technician III positions
  • Works with Management to influence Desktop Support policies and practices
Job requirements

Education and Experience

  • Technical school diploma, Community College degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years Desktop Support experience in Microsoft environment for a Level I
  • 2-3 years Desktop Support experience in Microsoft environment for a Level II
  • 3-4 years Desktop Support experience in Microsoft environment for a Level III
  • 5+ years Desktop Support experience in Microsoft environment for a Level IV
  • Industry certifications (i.e., A+, MCP, etc.) preferred
  • Employment is contingent upon a background investigation

Machines, Equipment and Technical Abilities

  • Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems
  • Internet navigation and research
  • Internet, including knowledge of email transmission and communication
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating environments, as well as exposure to industry products, terminology and trends
  • Microsoft applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, etc.
  • Using common office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, fax, computer, etc.)
