The Director of Business Continuity Management is responsible for developing an enterprise-wide approach to business continuity for the Company worldwide. S/He will be responsible for coordinating with businesses and regions the creation and maintenance of their Business Continuity plans. The Director will set expectations and ensure accountability from the businesses to manage their plans. S/He will identify potential risks for business interruption, conduct business impact analyses and provide a reliable, sustainable program to mitigate the effects of any interruptions. S/He will set standards for format and content, and will also develop strategies to ensure the program improves over time and minimizes the risks to Quest’s businesses. The Director will set processes to ensure that the program participants follow policy and the program is robust, well-structured and well-documented.
The position reports to the Executive Director of Network Optimization; location for the position is flexible within the US.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and maintain business continuity plans
Manage the day-to-day activities of the Business Continuity function
Coordinate activities of regionally- and business-based Business Continuity contacts around: Maintenance of BC plans, BC scenarios, tests/exercises, documentation of meeting notes, decisions and plan changes, and maintenance of a performance scorecard for the BC organization and businesses
Conduct annual Business Impact Assessment; manage the strategic risks identified after completion of BIAs and Threat Assessments
Establish a risk profile of the Company, including external threats (such as weather) and internal threats (such as facility weaknesses) and conduct an annual threat assessment
Develop annual summary of BC/DR risks within Business to incorporate into Corporate Risk Management (ERM) process and board reporting
Respond to audits of the BC program – provide documentation and proof of rigorous documentation and processes
Coordinate, assess, develop and communicate business continuity planning efforts among Quest Diagnostics laboratories, Lines of Business, and Corporate Support functions.
Ensure responsibilities and authorities for relevant roles are assigned and communicated within the organization
Facilitate the determination and selection of continuity strategies with Senior Management
Assume a strong supporting role and at times leadership role in response and recovery activities during business interruption events
Collaborate with key personnel from integrated functions such as IT Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management and Pandemic Planning to ensure smooth linkages of activities
Ensure Recovery Time and Recovery Process Objectives as identified by stakeholders are adequately satisfied
Utilize a project management approach to develop tracking mechanisms to facilitate on time, on quality and on budget execution of BCP initiative
Facilitate project meetings with local site teams and provide appropriate documentation
Provide Sponsors and Steering Committee with progress reports as required
Assume administrator responsibilities for two key systems supporting our BC program: Assurance (plan repository) and Everbridge (emergency alert system)
The successful candidate for Director of Business Continuity Management will possess the following:
Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and team facilitation skills
Demonstrated strategic business acumen
Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple detail-oriented tasks
Ability to work in a complex, highly matrixed, dynamic and fast-paced environment with strong project management skills which include: prioritizing tasks, balancing workload between multiple projects, anticipating next steps, and adapting to change
Ability to influence people and change at various levels in the organization
Intermediate knowledge of key software such as LDRPS, Assurance, Everbridge
Proficiency in MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
Process improvement experience
Bachelor’s degree required; an MBA preferred
Certified Project Management Professional preferred
Certified Business Continuity Professional preferred
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Business Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery, risk assessment, or similar experience
Minimum 5 years of people management experience preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience running a Business Continuity program for a similar size company or larger
Experience structuring / restructuring a BC program and raising its performance towards best-in-class is a plus
Travel 15-20% domestically
