As Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, you will be accountable for improving the Health, Safety and Environmental performance of the Hackettstown, NJ Plant by ensuring an exemplary health and safety culture and maintaining a strong focus on the environment. You’ll apply your in-depth HSE knowledge to offer advice, guidance and solutions in the site’s organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment health and safety regulations.



Your responsibilities

  • As a key member of the Hackettstown Plant leadership team, you’ll design, develop, implement, and monitor occupational health, industrial hygiene and workforce safety procedures, processes, and programs in alignment with ABB’s policies, instructions, and standards
  • Design, develop and implement employee training programs regarding Safe working behaviors and compliance for all employees and contractors within the Plant
  • Accountable for investigating, auditing and reporting of all HSE incidents, including implementation of corrective actions
  • Continual building and maintaining positive relationships with federal, state and local regulators
  • Directly support line managers and supervisors by conducting regular training and communicating effectively on all safety awareness programs to ensure plant leaders understand their obligations, liabilities, and compliance requirements in the daily performance of their roles
  • Facilitate HSE risks assessment in collaboration with line managers and encourage the direct involvement of shop floor employees in the assessment process
  • Lead continuous improvement projects, communicate and promote best practices, and ensure an exemplary health and safety culture
  • Drive and ensure compliance with ABB management systems, e.g., ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
  • Design, develop and implement employee training programs regarding Safe working behaviors and compliance for all employees and contractors within the Plant
  • Accountable for ensuring the safe and legally compliant handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials and will report on progress and KPI’s of the implementation of ABB’s Sustainability objectives and Safety and Health programs at the site



Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related discipline is required with a minimum of 4-5 years of demonstrated HSE experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong project management skills are required with demonstrated capability in developing, implementing and communicating effective Safety and Health programs
  • Experience leading Behavioral -based Safety programs is required; Direct experience with SafeStart is a plus
  • Must have experience investigating, assessing risk, reporting and implementing correction action of HSE incidents
  • Experience using HSE management and performance software systems, such as Intelex is highly desirable
  • Experience implementing ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 is highly preferred
  • Professional Certification (CSP, CIH, etc.) from a nationally recognized organization is a plus
  • Prefer experience in environmental health and safety program and compliance handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste materials
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across different functions and levels throughout the company
  • Ability to multi-task, manage strategic priorities, work under pressure, and meet business/project deadlines required
  • Advance proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 software is required
  • Flexibility to work across 3 shifts and overtime as needed is a plus
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States
