Our 10-week Summer Internship Program is an ideal way for both undergrad and graduate students to gain real-life work experience while learning what a career at Blue Shield of California can offer. Interns work on real-world projects and initiatives while being immersed in all aspects of our business. From interacting with senior leadership to visiting a neighborhood health clinic, interns will build a better understanding of the diversity and complexities of working in the dynamic world of health insurance.

Below is some information on the project this intern will be working on:


Reporting to the Lead the Way Program Manager, the role of the Lead the Way communication intern is to design, develop and deliver a communication package that enables Customer Experience Managers to bring new Supervisors up to speed on the Lead the Way program quickly and efficiently. Lead the Way is leader development program to drive consistent, high-quality leadership across Customer Experience and is critical to the success of Blue Shield of California and the Performance and Learning department in realizing their goals and objectives. Specifically, the communications specialist role will be accountable for:
• Conducting internal research to understand the tools & resources needed by Managers to quickly bring their new supervisors up to speed on Lead the Way
• Developing a comprehensive plan, including objectives, deliverables, timeline and success measurements
• Creating all needed material for Managers to use, including instructions, information packet, PowerPoint presentations and videos 
• Developing Shield Central page to allow easy access to materials
• Developing communications to introduce packet and how to use it
• Gaining feedback on final package usage and making modifications as needed

In addition to the project above, Lead the Way communication intern will:
• Write and publish post-event communications summarizing the experience and key learning
• Interview participants and publish articles highlighting the benefits of their experience in the program
• Partner with the Lead the Way associate project manager to coordinate implementation of learning events on multiple sites. 
Job requirements
Candidate Profile and Requirements: 
•Pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Communications or related field
•Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
•Advanced Excel and Power Point required
•Social media marketing communication, and business writing experience required; website design preferred 
•Project or program coordination preferred but not required
