PenFed is hiring a Business Controls Analyst - Issues Management (Remote). The primary purpose of this job is to develop, design and implement solutions to align with the strategic goals of PenFed Mortgage. Identifies opportunities to enhance and streamline business processes and assists in providing solutions to complex business challenges. Acts as a subject matter expert to assure processes are compliant with investor and regulatory guidelines.


*This position is remote, and can be located anywhere in the United States.*

**Compensation range: $53,600.00 - $101,425.00**

  • Responsible for the documentation and communication of key business processes and issues resolution.
  • Identifies opportunities and/or implements business solutions to meet business needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant internal policies and procedures, as well as external (federal and state) regulations and guidelines concerning real-estate related lending.
  • Maintain department process workflows and procedure framework.
  • Analyze new legislation to determine impact on business process and risk exposure.
  • Coordinates with appropriate stakeholders develop and monitor action plans associated with identified issues and help ensure successful initiative implementation.
  • Verify and/or validate action plans have been completed and are effective.
  • Serve as the Liaison for internal and external audits.
  • Perform root cause analyses and system testing, providing recommendations to increase control and reduce risk.
  • Assist with the development of in-line controls to decrease the incidence of non-compliance.
  • Provide feedback to manager to allow for coaching and improvement.
  • Engage with vendors on new and/or existing services to optimize efficiency and quality.


Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ related experience in banking or credit union operations that provides expert knowledge of products, services, systems, operational policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance issues is required.
  • Experience with real estate loans (origination, processing, closing and funding) is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with lending and credit laws and regulations, including but not limited to RESPA, Fair Credit Reporting, Regulations B, C, E and Z, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) Truth in Savings and the SAFE act is preferred.
  • Expert in Equal Credit Opportunity Act and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act by ensuring that credit decisions are made timely, able to pull regulatory citations to help address a process gaps within production through risk mitigation strategies using tactical and/or strategic approaches. 3-5 years’ experience is a plus

  • Previous experience in filing the HMDA Loan Application Registrar with intermediate to expert level knowledge on helping to triage filing errors and creating risk mitigation strategies using tactical and/or strategic approaches through multiple departments including Quality Assurance within the Origination process. 3-5 years’ experience is a plus

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Limited travel to various worksites is required.
