Job description

The Room Service Ambassador's primary function is to deliver meals to patients in a manner that supports the Hospital's commitment to the Culture of Excellence. Each Ambassador must have a working knowledge of department specific technology that includes the operation of hand-held devices and tray line computer based support equipment. Those in this position may actively perform essential food service functions that may include operating food service equipment; cleaning and sanitizing dishware, equipment, and food production areas; and maintaining safe food production and service areas in order to provide appealing, appetizing, and wholesome food to those served by the Nutrition Services Department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


MEAL DELIVERY:
Abides by department rules governing the efficient and safe serving of trays to patients. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) The Ambassador delivers patient room service carts containing Patient and Guest meals (up to eight trays per cart) from the main kitchen to the
patient in the patient care units.
(2) Meals are delivered in the same sequence as they were loaded into the cart, no more than ten (10) minutes from leaving the kitchen.
(3) Scripting is utilized during interactions with patients, customers and the health care team as per hospital and department protocols.
(4) Coordination with medication administration and patient testing has been performed.
(5) Ambassador has complied with standard precaution and has served meals to patients in Isolation or Respiratory Isolation (Airborne) rooms as
required.
(6) Ambassador has served Safety Tray meals to patients requiring them.
(7) Is proficient with the use of hand-held technology devices used to track patient meal tray delivery.

PERFORMS ASSIGNED SIDE WORK AS NEEDED:
Responsible for relieving the Room Service Line Starter, Facilitator or Expeditor on their breaks. Assists in the Dish room and under situations of special needs
may be required to assist in the Hospitality Center. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Food has been stocked in the air curtain refrigerators, freezers; as well as stocking of coffee supplies, paper supplies, silverware, condiments, etc. on
the Room Service Line as required to meet patient needs during the hours Room Service is operational.
(2) Patient floors are swept for dirty trays.
(3) Tray carts have been washed, sanitized and shined near the end of the shift, in preparation for the next shift.
(4) Maintains nourishment stock on nursing units at proper par levels as needed and ensures that microwaves on nursing units are kept clean as
needed.


PROVIDES EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND QUALITY NUTIRITON CARE:
Responsible for delivering meals to patients and guests with a cheerful and excellent attitude. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) The approved method of service carried out, by confirming the patient's identity as per Tower Health policy with Two Key Patient Identifiers when
delivering food to a patient.
(2) A magnet is placed on the upper right doorframe before patient room is entered to indicate it will be necessary to pick up a tray in that room.
Ambassador knocks on all patient doors and waits for a reply before entering a room.
(3) Meals are delivered to a patient within 45 minutes of the order being placed.
(4) Ambassador has assisted with the rounding of patients, to insure that all patients who have not received a tray have been seen and a plan of
nutrition service has been discussed.
(5) Time of delivery of tray is entered into the Tray Tracker System.
(6) All soiled trays are picked up after meal service.
(7) A clean, safe, and sanitary work environment has been maintained.
