What Software Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Software Engineering is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting applications, systems and IT products required to achieve the company's business objectives.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of software development techniques and fluency in software languages and application programming interfaces.
  • Demonstrates general understanding of hardware/software platforms including but not limited to operating systems, databases, application servers, web servers and integration technologies.
  • Plans and executes system implementations that ensure success and minimize risk of system outages or other negative production impacts.
  • Demonstrates conceptual knowledge of architecture standards and  database and operating systems.
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability that allows for effective and timely resolution of system issues including but not limited to production outages.
  • Analyzes production system operations using tools such as monitoring, capacity analysis and outage root cause analysis to identify and drive change that ensures continuous improvement in system stability and performance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of software development, life cycle, modeling of business processes, application design patterns, business/functional documents. Estimates to high level business requirements and provide options analysis.


  • Lead large-scale eCommerce implementations, such as SAP Commerce, PCF(nice to have) providing both oversight and hands on contributions to the software design, development, and integration;
  • Participate in the development of conceptual and logical architectures;
  • Design, develop and maintain application architectures that support business requirements;
  • Resolve integration and interfacing issues between various back-end systems;
  • Optimize application performance and scalability across on-premise and cloud;
  • Assist Project Leadership conduct project risk identification and mitigation planning;


YOUR EXPERIENCE: Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in application architecture and Java/J2EE software development
  • 3+ years of experience developing SAP Commerce applications (Hybris)
  •  2+ years of experience in developing RESTful Microservices and Cloud Native Applications is highly desired.

SET YOURSELF APART: Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Digital application architecture / enterprise architecture, systems integration and development, and package implementation with knowledge of interactive design;
  • Experience working with relevant B2C and B2B eCommerce packaged solutions such as SAP Commerce / IBM Commerce / Salesforce;
  • Firm understanding of web application design and analysis, design patterns, and object oriented design;
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to facilitate technical discussions effectively and to deliver constructive feedback;
  • Previous experience with Hybrid development methodologies is preferred; experience must be obtained while executing ecommerce projects with a global and local team;
  • Must be competent in using software development tools such as IntelliJ/Eclipse, Git, Jira;
  • Experience in multiple web technologies including: JSP, SPA, CSS, Micro-Services/Web Services/Rest/SOAP, SQL;
  • Experience with one or more Java concepts and patterns including: Java, Spring, Rabbit MQ, Caching(Redis), JMS, JUnit, Mockito, MVC;
  • Working knowledge of multiple web and application tier technologies: Tomcat, Apache Http, Hybris Solr, open source packages;
  • Experience with project DevOps and automation technologies: Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, Selenium, automated unit testing,.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members and management
  • Bachelors or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, MIS or related field, preferred
