Job description
Overview
Responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the activities and uses of personnel, equipment and supplies to meet the Medical Physics needs of Memorial Medical Center and Memorial Health System Affiliates, as assigned. Manages the Quality Assurance program in Medical Imaging or Radiation Oncology by assisting the department in the design, documentation, implementation and evaluation of procedures that ensure proper equipment performance consistent with accurate and precise doses. Provides medical physics consultation for the clinical support of Radiologists or Radiation Oncologists, as required.

A normal day is spent in the clinic working with patients, staff and positions on the management of patients being treated with radiation therapy. Reviewing prescriptions and dose plans as well as calculation around dosing and safety that meets that plan. Works with staff on setting up patient on treatment machine and answering any questions on dosing and equipment issues.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Masters or PhD degree in Medical Physics or Physics.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
  • American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics.
Experience:
  • Ten years experience in Medical Physics required.
  • Experience in radiation-producing equipment installation, acceptance, calibration, and commissioning.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Membership and participation in professional development activities through the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability required.
  • Excellent human relations skills required.
