Job description
Primary responsibilities
  • Provides technical leadership to one or more scrum teams to drive architecture, design, and code quality in alignment with vision and direction set for the department.  Actively participates within agile teams to design, develop (write code), test and deploy software.
  • Serves as the application owner for one or more products within the company product portfolio and is accountable for the delivery of high-quality software releases that are supportable and maintainable.
  • In cooperation with projects managers and scrum masters, is accountable for delivery of assigned projects from development start through deployment to production.
  • Manages and coordinates the planning, design, scoping, functional analysis, technical analysis, coding, implementation, and support of company products
  • Ensures that technical and quality standards are enforced throughout the software development lifecycle. Ensures compliance with audit or other applicable compliance guidelines
  • Manages the department's resource planning and allocation for optimal application availability and performance
  • Actively participating in the interviewing and hiring processes and ensuring successful functional on-boarding of new associates
  • Planning, assigning and directing work for direct reports
  • Setting reasonable stretch performance goals, providing constructive, balanced, regular performance feedback, and conducting bi-annual performance appraisals
  • Recognizing and rewarding performance excellence
  • Communicating and enforcing company policies and programs
  • Applying corrective discipline, addresses complaints and resolving problems in a timely fashion, involving and collaborating with leadership and Human Resources as appropriate
Experience, Education, and Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the development of Java-based, high volume, mission critical applications in heterogeneous environments/architectures for multi-user systems
  • A minimum of 1 year of technical leadership with supervisory experience.
  • Expertise in Java EE, Spring Framework, Messaging Systems, XML, Web Services, JavaScript, HTML, web technologies, scripting languages, etc.             
  • Expertise in web and/or distributed application design
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Proven success building applications that satisfy security, scalability, high availability, and network management/monitoring requirements.
  • Experience in defining architectures that satisfy security, scalability, high availability, and network management/monitoring requirements.
  • Experience in business process modeling & reengineering.
  • Experience with Service Oriented Architecture concepts, web/RESTful services, and event-driven architecture.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing (experience with Selenium a plus), and operations
  • Knowledge of DevOps and Continuous Delivery strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of a broad spectrum of infrastructure technologies and secure computing environments: network, hardware and operating systems, servers and storage
  • Knowledge of relational and/or non-relational databases (PostgreSQL a plus), web technologies and web analytics tools
  • Experience with AWS/automation a plus
