In this position, you will provide technical support for Process Automation Energy Industries in Energy Service in Houston, Texas, delivering superior, professional service, remotely or on-site.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of ABB 800xA products installed at ABB customer facilities with minimal professional guidance. This includes performing maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of our proprietary hardware and software systems; as well as, supporting projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced services such as system performance fingerprints for a variety of industrial processes. This support will be also required to be on offshore platforms or vessels. This individual will be required to work independently or as a member of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB products and/or services. The individual will be supported by his or her service team which consists of; a coordinator to assist with scheduling of work, a regional technical advisor for mentoring and assistance with the most difficult field problems, and an operations manager for direct reporting and personnel issues. The senior engineer will be expected to assist with the development of junior technicians.

Your responsibilities

  • Handle difficult customer service related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on-site. Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations
  • Use own industry related experience to troubleshoot and repair equipment and resolve difficult problems. Industry specific experience, as well as a good understanding of process control, electrical safety, and computer systems is critical for success in this area
  • Accurately, and completely document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Set the example for more junior technicians with respect to reporting. Reports will be used for customer invoicing and historical record for on-site service
  • Use own industry related experience to assist with various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments and to utilize own technical experience to support the project. Assist with technical aspects of proposal creation to facilitate a timely proposals process
  • Assist with the development of junior field service technicians. Provide mentoring, on-the-job training, and guidance for junior technicians when required

Your background

  • Minimum of associate degree in instrumentation/process control related field or electrical engineering technology, computer science related major and 5 years related industry experience and 3 years of experience in offshore related functions.
  • Preferred is bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or computer science related majors.
  • Knowledge of ABB’s 800xA systems including SIL rated systems is a must.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
