Under general supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor, the SPD Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization process of all instruments, inventory of supplies, and training of new staff members. May be asked to assume the responsibilities of the Supervisor, or another Lead Tech during his/her absence.
Responsibilities and Duties:
§ Prepares and performs instrument decontamination, assembly and sterilization.
§ Assist with establishing and overseeing the coordination of the turn overs and priority items needed for surgical cases.
§ Performs duties in accordance with the hospital, JCAHO, AORN, and other appropriate policies and procedures.
§ Identifies discrepant sets and monitors out of service instruments on a daily basis, and communicates appropriately to the SPD and OR Management.
§ Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Training & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited school for Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology Program
Minimum of 5 year experience in a Hospital Sterile Processing setting required. Leadership or supervisory experience highly preferred. CRCST is mandatory.
