Provides leadership of the Tower Health and Reading Hospital Public Relations & Corporate Communications department and manages the growing communications needs of the system. Develops and executes the annual Public Relations and Corporate Communications Plan.
In support of the Tower Health strategic plan and in collaboration with the VP, Marketing and Corporate Communications and senior leadership, creates and regularly updates the annual Tower Health Corporate Communications and Public Relations Plan based on informed analytics, voice of customer market research and stakeholder input. Defines measures of success.
Ensures Tower Health’s traditional and digital communication needs, including internal and external communication and publications, executive communication and speeches, and video presentations, are developed and executed on time and within budget. Ensures that high quality communication standards are met and continually improved to meet evolving best practice.
Serves as Tower Health’s Public Information Spokesperson/Corporate Spokesperson during crisis situations. Prepares and leads strategic communications plans addressing sensitive internal or external issues.
Develops and maintains relationships with the print and electronic media so that Tower Health is viewed as the premier source of information on healthcare issues. Also ensures that new developments in healthcare throughout Tower Health are effectively brought to the attention of the community.
Collaborates with the Tower Health Vice President of Marketing and the Director of Planning in monitoring internal and external perceptions of the Tower Health brand by using tactics including but not limited to general opinion surveys, interviews with community leaders, spot polling and focus groups. Advises the Tower Health Executive Leadership on issues, tactics, events, etc., which many strengthen or threaten the reputation of the Tower Health brand.
Monitors community and government attitudes, opinions and actions to proactively respond to opportunities and threats that could affect Tower Health’s ability to carry out its mission.
Leads, develops and manages, a high functioning corporate communications and public relations team.
Represents Tower Health in the media and at public gatherings in the absence of key senior executive management so that there is a clear understanding of actions Tower Health may take or unforeseen circumstances that may occur.
Plans, organizes and directs the ongoing strategy, development and management of the corporate communications function of the Tower Health Intranet.
Advises executive leadership on public positions related to sensitive community healthcare issues. Works to ensure that the community support’s Tower Health’s mission and partners to broaden that mission to achieve our vision.
Maintains effective working relationships with other internal and external audiences, including employees, management, volunteers, members of the Medical staff, media, opinion leaders, and officials with community agencies that have an impact on Tower Health. Works in tandem with representatives of the Business Development Team to provide optimal communications outcomes.
Directs production of printed and electronic corporate communication to enhance the awareness, image and active support of Tower Health among target audiences including employees, physicians, community leaders and the public. Among the objectives of these efforts are to have members of the target audience recommend Tower Health to others, improve patient satisfaction, and encourage community support.
Proactively identifies new technology and processes that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Conducts corporate communications research studies across all internal audiences to measure communication channel preferences and trend internal communications effectiveness. Revises communication plans, channels and technology based on survey results.
Serves on the team responsible for responding to external comments received via Tower Health’s website and posted on Tower Health’s social media channels.
Manages and provides opportunities for personal and professional growth of the Public Relations and Corporate Communications staff.
Oversees the development and management of the system and entity-specific corporate communications and public relations budget. Provides quarterly budget reports against budget.
Develops and maintains a PR dashboard that accurately measures the effectiveness of public relations initiatives against plan.
Ensures that all projects are monitored and tracked via a comprehensive project management software system to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Edits written material developed by team for Tower Health internal and external audiences.
Develops and manages of pool of external communication resources as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration or other related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience successfully managing and leading a corporate communications function, preferably in a healthcare environment. This includes developing internal and external communications strategy and plans based on strategic goals and objectives. Minimum of five years demonstrated experience successfully building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Required: Demonstrated excellent leadership, relationship development, teambuilding, communication and presentation skills. Experience managing crisis communication needs. Must be self-directed, proactive and have demonstrated the ability to work with shared leadership and cross-functional teams. Ability to succinctly communicate complex organizational messages.
