Demonstrate a working knowledge in Traffic Engineering, specific to design and analysis for infrastructure and site development projects. Michael Baker is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The candidate can look forward to projects that include traffic signal, signage, pavement marking, and maintenance-of-traffic design; transportation planning, and traffic analyses. This position will be a key member of the Traffic Engineering team in our Richmond, VA office, and will be responsible for supporting traffic engineering and transportation planning projects in the Richmond area throughout the state of Virginia, and in North Carolina and South Carolina. Candidate will assist in the continued growth of the traffic engineering team based in Richmond, Virginia. This position will require interaction with clients and Michael Baker team members and may require professional presentations to client or agency representatives from time to time.

  • Prepare traffic signal design plans
  • Prepare roadway signage plans
  • Prepare pavement marking plans
  • Prepare maintenance-of-traffic plans
  • Perform capacity analyses on intersections and roadway networks
  • Conduct microsimulation traffic analyses on intersections and roadway networks using transportation planning/engineering software
  • Prepare written reports and presentations of project findings

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or related area of study
  • Professional Engineers license is strongly preferred (or eligibility to achieve one within 6 months of hire)
  • Have 5-10 years of relevant work experience, Master's degree in relevant discipline can substitute for up to one year of work experience
  • Experience in traffic analysis software (HCS, micro-simulation) for planning and design purposes
  • Must have working knowledge and understanding of industry related analyses and development criteria/concepts
  • Must be able to develop documents in Microsoft Office
