What Strategic Pricing contributes to Cardinal Health


Strategic Pricing is responsible for developing, communicating and leading the execution of business strategy and customer profitability through pricing and value-capturing activities at both the strategic and tactical levels. Serves as an effective liaison with senior executive management, marketing, legal, finance, sales, and IT.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with pricing processes, systems, and controls and implements as necessary.
  • Prepares, manipulates and extracts data and information from multiple internal and external sources and leverages to develop and execute pricing strategies
  • Demonstrates knowledge of customer deal economics, financial modeling techniques, and related pricing strategies.
  • Works effectively across functions such as IT, Marketing and Finance to design and implement new or enhancements to existing processes, systems, and tools.
  • Communicates effectively across the organization regarding profitization opportunities and key pricing insights.
  • Develops, communicates and monitors price recommendations and guardrails for deals and products by performing basic pricing analysis or leveraging and synthesizing advanced analytics of internal and external intelligence.
  • Develops, implements and maintains pricing programs designed to enhance pricing margin.

The VP, Strategic Pricing & Analytics guides and shapes the definition of the Medical Segment’s pricing strategy.  They are responsible for driving pricing strategy across the organization; identifying and implementing opportunities to drive revenue and profit growth as well as improvements to existing pricing models, processes, and tools; and lead, motivate, and develop the pricing and analytics teams.  This is a highly collaborative role that interfaces heavily with internal C-level team members of the Medical Segment business.


Accountabilities

  • Develops strategy and drives the implementation of pricing strategy
    • Guides and shapes the definition of the Medical Segment’s overall pricing strategy, with cross-functional input. 
    • Drives implementation of supporting pricing strategies across the organization, working across business units and geographies.  Translates pricing strategies into specific initiatives to drive implementation and execution.  Ensures pricing strategies are tied to business strategies (and profitability drivers) and aligned with the overall pricing strategy.
    • Develops and communicates clear price recommendations and guardrails.
    • Establishes and owns the review and update of pricing strategies based on market, competitive, and internal inputs.
  • Provides strong leadership in helping drive confidence in pricing actions
    • Leads pricing team, ensuring deep expertise and coordination with business, Marketing, Sales, Finance, IT, and Legal leadership. 
    • Provides leadership and project management, ensuring initiatives are delivered on-time and deliver the target benefits.
    • Motivates and develops Strategic Pricing and Analytics leaders. 
    • Analyzes the current business and competitive environment to identify opportunities to drive revenue and profit increases.  Develops, implements and maintains pricing programs designed to enhance revenue and margin.
  • Demonstrates pricing expertise
    • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with pricing processes, systems, and controls and implements as necessary. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge of customer deal economics, financial modeling techniques and related pricing strategies.  Demonstrates deep understanding of the Medical business.  Understands what works, what doesn’t, and why. 
  • Develops deep analytics expertise
    • Understands quantitative models and their application, including advanced statistical methods such as causal and predictive modeling, forecasting, data mining, simulation, and/or optimization.
    • Uses advanced statistical techniques to analyze information from multiple internal and external sources and inform pricing strategies.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
    • Able to effectively work with, and influence, senior (SVP+) business and functional leaders.  Works closely with CFO.  Routinely interacts/collaborates with senior BU, Sales, Marketing leaders. 
    • Collaborates effectively across, and at multiple levels of, the organization.  Able to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
    • Facilitate best practice sharing across the function.
  • Capable of developing a world-class pricing capability
    • Partners with Data Management & Analytic Services team to implement, automate and operationalize pricing models into day-to-day business decision making.
    • Works effectively across functions such as IT, Data Management, Marketing and Finance to design and implement new or enhancements to existing processes, systems, and tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors and Advanced degree in related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years’ experience in related field.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Ability to effectively build relationships across teams.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or MS in a quantitative science (statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, engineering, bioinformatics, machine learning, etc.).
  • Strategy Consulting experience preferred; proven ability to interpret customer needs and develop appropriate solutions; negotiation and influence skills required.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend statistical methods appropriate to a business problem considering methods and processes appropriate for scalability/repeatability.
  • Experience in complex organizational-wide problem solving, analyzing and synthesizing disparate sources of data, and developing actionable end-to-end analytic solutions with an eye towards usability/how the approach would be implemented to solve for high value business problems.
  • Leadership excellence, Communication, Organizational Influence.
  • Experience with motivating, developing, and leading a team in the use of innovative approaches to solve challenging business problems through the integration of varied data sources.
  • Experience applying advanced analytics and statistical skills to the distribution or healthcare industries.
